Ever since Wandy Asigen arrived at the Niño Ulloa League in Montellano, Puerto Plata at the tender age of 6, he set out to work hard, develop himself, and eventually achieve the goal he has just accomplished this Thursday.

Like everything in life, it was not easy for him to achieve this feat, with many sacrifices and the decision to leave his maternal home to seek his fortune in Santo Domingo and San Cristóbal.

“I worked hard, I never stopped striving to give my best, with many hours of training to surpass myself every day,” expressed the 16-year-old Asigen.

The boy who was hungry for success, sweating through his various practices and tryouts, was the center of attention this Thursday, with spotlights and interviews following his agreement with the Mets. For the second year in a row, the franchise has offered the highest bonus to at least one Dominican rookie, following the 2025 signing of Elián Peña.

Asigen, with a shy demeanor, hopes that his bat will continue to speak for him. He is ready to confirm the trust that the Mets have placed in his talent, emphatically stating that he hopes not to disappoint them.

“Continuing to work even harder is the main focus in his learning process as he aims to become a member of the Mets in the big leagues.

Meeting Francisco Lindor, his idol, is something he hopes to see come true as soon as he gets the chance to train with the team in Port St Lucie.

He expressed gratitude to Niño Ulloa, Amauris Bautista, as well as Jaime Ramos for the efforts they put into his development to become the baseball player who has just achieved his first major goal.
